USCIS Temporarily Pauses Asylum Decisions

USCIS has temporarily paused decisions on all asylum applications in the wake of the shooting of two National Guard soldiers in Washington, DC.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

– This pause affects applicants from every country and is different than the pause the government has put on applications for citizens of certain “high risk” countries (you can read more about that pause here).

– Only applicants whose cases are pending before USCIS are affected. If your case is pending before the Immigration Court (EOIR), then you should expect your case to continue.

– Only decisions are on hold through this temporary pause. USCIS has not paused issuance of work permits or scheduling of interviews at this time. If you have a pending asylum case before USCIS, you should continue to work on it.

– USCIS has not provided an end date for this pause.
